HYDERABAD: A massive anti-encroachment drive in Hyderabad has sparked outrage as the district administration continues to demolish homes and small businesses of the underprivileged, while the officials who originally sanctioned these illegal constructions remain untouched by the law.Critics and affected residents allege a “discriminatory approach,” pointing out that while poor citizens are being rendered homeless, the high-ranking officers of the departments—who accepted bribes to allow these encroachments over the years—enjoy complete immunity. Legal experts and civil society activists have demanded an immediate inquiry into the “patronage of illegalities,” calling for the arrest of complicit officials alongside the recovery of public land.
